Newspaper Reimbursement

All eligible employees/faculty members in Pay Level 9 and above are eligible for newspaper reimbursement. The current rate of allowance is as under

Pay Level 9 and above, but less than 14: Rs. 500 p.m.

Pay Level 14 and above: Rs. 850 p.m.

Annual Immovable Property Return

All Government servants belonging to Group ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and erstwhile Group ‘D’ Officers shall submit an annual return “as on 31st December” every year giving full particulars of immovable property inherited/ owned/ acquired/ held by them on lease or mortgage either in their own name, or in any of their family member’s name, or in any other person’s name. All these Government servants are required to file their returns by 31st January, in the prescribed form.

Co-Guide IP Terms

Declaration form to be executed by IITB faculty members before agreeing to be a co-supervisor of non-IITB students, for supervision of their Master's/Doctoral research. We request you to kindly initiate the implementation of the same for all such requests received at your office henceforth.

Chair Professorship position

As a means of recognizing outstanding performance, the Institute has several Chair Professor positions. While most of these are at the Professor’s level, there are a few at other levels also. Funding for several of these comes from endowments, and is managed by the Dean (ACR)’s office, which also takes an active role in raising funds for further Chairs. The selection to these Chairs is done by a Selection Committee. The tenure of the Chair Professorship position is for a period of three years, and the chair is re-advertised at the end of that period.

Medical advance and reimbursement

IIT Bombay provides reimbursement or advance for the use of outside medical services if the reference is made by our Hospital. In case of an emergency, a referral is not necessary but a verbal or written intimation to IIT Hospital within 24 hours of hospitalization is mandatory. There is a list of approved Medicare Centers/ Hospitals for outpatient treatment of staff members who live off-campus or are on vacation/leave. However, referrals from these hospitals to other hospitals must be authorized by our Hospital. In case of hospitalization, IITB pays an advance payment of up to 90% of the estimated cost. To get reimbursed, please fill out the following forms and submit them along with cash receipts: Link for ERP Portal: ep.iitb.ac.in 

Telephone expense reimbursement

Faculty members can be reimbursed for telephone expenses (landline and/or mobile connection) up to ₹18,000 (₹21,600 for Professors) per year, which includes ₹4,800 for home internet. Campus residents receive reduced amounts of ₹13,200 (₹16,800 for Professors) since the Institute provides internet for them. Those not residing on campus can claim the full amount with evidence of home internet. Bills for telephone and internet charges can be submitted monthly, semiannually, or annually to the accounts section.  No tax liability is incurred as it is a reimbursement.

Lien

Faculty members have the option to request a lien on their post to accept job offers in India or abroad, including assignments in private or public sector undertakings. To be eligible for a lien, the faculty member must have completed a minimum of 5 years of service after confirmation. The lien period can be one year continuously or two years if the service period exceeds 10 years. For the faculty members appointed as Directors, CEOs in a government organization or public sector unit, the lien period can be up to five years.

Special leave and Sabbatical Leave

Faculty members can take long leaves up to three years for academic purposes. Special leave is for academic assignments abroad, while sabbatical leave is for academic assignments or writing books. A bond is required, and certain conditions and requirements must be met. Please go through the faculty handbook for more details.

 

Travelling Allowance (TA) claims form

After official travel outside of Mumbai, a faculty should submit the TA claims form to settle the travel expenses (accommodation, meals, and incidental expenses). The claimant needs to attach boarding passes, expense bills, a copy of tickets, and proof of payment (e.g. email, SMS, or card/bank statement) if electronically paid. The faculty can only book tickets from three approved travel agents: IRCTC, Balmer Lawrie, and Ashoka travels. They should book the cheapest ticket within the three-hour window of departure time. The claimant should also submit a screen shot of the website of the available options.

Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) and IR-ITPP

The CPDA provides support for travel, including international, and contingency expenses. The allowance amounts to ₹ 3,00,000 for a block period of three years. The current block is April 2022-March 2025. The CPDA only supports travel to make oral/poster presentations or chair a session at international or national conferences. A faculty may also use CPDA for paying the membership fee of various professional bodies, books, and contingent expenses, which must not exceed ₹ 1,00,000. IRCC International Travel Patent and Publication (IR-ITPP) grant: In addition to CPDA, IRITPP grant is available, which is ₹3,00,000 per faculty till March 31, 2025. This grant can be used for financial support for Conferences/ Workshops/ Collaborative Research Visits under IOE Fund.
